Setting off

This group of hikers were gathering outside the Abinger Hatch pub, getting ready to explore the Surrey hills on a bright but cold afternoon.
I was not joining them, but visiting the church opposite for a concert given by a Surrey WI choir. A small choir of about twenty voices, but they put on an excellent programme of Christmas music, sounding wonderful in the picturesque church of St James’ , Abinger Common. This little church is a partial rebuild because the old church was severely damaged by a flying bomb in August 1944. It was rebuilt, only to be damaged again, this time by a lightning strike! Sorry I didn’t blip the church, I was being hurried by my companions! Another day perhaps.
