Knaresborough from the Castle grounds...

... must have been blipped by me before (as well as many visitors to the town). But I can't remember and I was in the town on an errand, as the winter sun was just catching the buildings above the River Nidd.

One of the most famous features of the town is the railway viaduct, which stands nearly 80ft above the water (and I managed to catch a train going over it!).

It can't have been an easy building job. Indeed -  when it was nearly finished, on 11th March1848, the structure collapsed over night. They virtually had to start again and it took another 3 years to complete.
