An EMB... for DerelictSunday..

It's a piece from airfield B.89 that I pass almost every day...
The Allies wanted to build new airports in the southeast of liberated Netherlands. From there they could offer air support to the 1st Canadian Army. For example, an airport northwest of the Brabant village of Mill came. A few decades earlier (on 29 and 30 June 1911) a flying demonstration had already taken place on the selected site that was locally known as "de Kuilen". 
This field was given the code name B.89. The airport offered space for 2 wings of fighter aircraft. It was given one runway of 1400 m in length and had to be ready for operational use by March 1945 at the latest.


At the end of December 1944 the commander of the 14 Army Group Royal Engineers (14AGRE) inspected the location. He then adjusted the plans. The field had to be ready in February 1945 for 5 squadrons with fighter aircraft.


The English also housed the Royal Air Force staff at the airport. That meant the construction of a large alloy camp. On January 1, 1945, the Allies started building the airport. Some of the materials used were supplied via the German Lijntje. It became a large complex: service buildings were built and housing was built for the RAF staff, a total of 72 barracks and 140 niche huts. At the beginning of February the runway and part of the airport were ready...
