Brush Strokes

Yesterday's fresh coating of snow on the lake ice was broken by long dark lines, like fissures in a glacier, looking as if nature had freshly painted lines and shapes on a blank canvas. As with all good painting, variety of line and edge is key.

I suppose the twig in the foreground gives some sense of scale, but otherwise the abstract form gives little reference to reality. I like the final line at the top which is so close to the edge and almost indiscernible.

I emphasized the graphic quality of the image by stretching the contrast, and brought out texture at the edges of the nearest dark shapes to add visual interest.
