Quod oculus meus videt

New and Old

I’m currently carrying out a transfer of some old slides onto digital for the curator at Weston Park. It’s a bit of a time-consuming project as I can only scan four slides at a time.

To think that slide or negative film was our only option for most photographers less than two decades ago makes you consider how far we’ve come. More than anything else it has made photography accessible to so many more people. And now with the advent of cameras on our phones, we are even more enabled sharing our images.

So how wonderful was it that 15 years ago, Joe Tree came up with the idea of sharing just one photograph a day? By setting a limitation of sharing just one photograph from each day, he made that image more important. The confetti like sharing of images that you see on other social media channels might be likened to getting out a pack of 36 prints and sharing those lacklustre holiday images. I feel lucky to have found Blipfoto and the discipline that it provides to sharing photographs.
