Captain Flinders at Euston

Walking from Euston to a meeting at the Friends Meeting House in Euston Road, I passed this wonderful sculpture of Matthew Flinders and his trusty cat Trim.

Looking the sculpture up on Google, I discovered that archaeologists working on the HS2 project at the St James's burial ground near Euston discovered Flinder's remains in January 2019.

Flinders was the Royal Navy explorer who led the first circumnavigation of Australia and is credited with giving the country its name.  He was buried on the 23rd July 1813.
