Another side of India

I thought about this photo when I decided to post this.... Manchester ... Cherai ... the problems we face are the same.. Alcoholism is a huge problem here and is almost encouraged by the Governing Bodies who have taken a monopoly on the drink outlets which are caged, grimy places with queues outside them all day long. The money raised from the taxes pays for laptops for schools and other 'good' causes but the means by which this money is raised destroys families ... More and more of the drink outlets are being opened ... and there is not much else to do in the evenings... it is an especial problem with the poorest .. whose women might do some of the hardest menial tasks and the men drink the money away ...

A bit of a contrast to yesterday ... but part of the bigger picture ..
