Ward Hill panorama

Another day of sunshine here. I went to Orphir village and up the track through Russadale, then up to the top of Ward Hill. There are a few hills by that name in Orkney; it meant 'beacon hill' and was where warning fires would be lit at times of danger. I suppose the 'ward' is used as in words like warder, warden etc.
At the top was a little snow but Orkney looks likely to miss the snow expected to hit the UK at the weekend. There were some nice little icicles and patterned ice on pools see some here.
Not many birds on the moor, though there was a woodcock in a small conifer plantation. From the bus-stop I watched a hen harrier hunting.
