Psalmist with a camera

Serious Stuff....off the Record!

Word has it that.......

......A gramophone record, is an analog sound storage medium consisting of a flat disc with an inscribed, modulated spiral groove. The groove usually starts near the periphery and ends near the center of the disc.

They are generally described by their diameter in inches, the rotational speed at which they are played, their time capacity, their reproductive accuracy, or the number of channels of audio provided.

These 'blipped' specimens, I'm given to believe, are of the stereo, 45rpm, 7" single vinyl format.........and for collectors.........not to be sneezed at!!

The two biggest companies engaged in the manufacture of vinyl discs were RCA Victor and Columbia Records. RCA Victor was the first company to introduce in 1948 what became this very popular vinyl format, a 7-inch 45 rpm disc which initially played for 3 mins per side........6 mins if you bought the extended play!!

Columbia followed by issuing its first 45s in February 1951.

By 1954, 200 million 45s had been sold.....a percentage of which can be seen in this consignment being delivered to our friendly neighbourhood thrift centre for recycling!!

Gk is taking downsizing really seriously......and a big gaping hole did momentarily appear on her bookshelf but has since been filled up by 'bunging' more user friendly sized cd's into it, the like of which, had previously threatened to take over the entire sitting room and engulf the now almost clear corridors!!

Credit where credits due mind....she's doing a great job!

Sad to think of the demise of the 45's though. They seemed so versatile and have so many uses once they were scratched beyond reasonable listening mode!

Pot holders
Tea pot stands
Crow scarers
Skimmers, if you ever got near a pond or lake
Flower pots if heated slightly and bent
Coasters for 'man sized mugs'
Clocks if you took the spindle out of the middle and painted numbers on

......the list is endless...and the entrepeneurial possibilities certainly worth looking into!!

Another day maybe.

Happy Blipping Everyone.
