Nativity Scene

As we descended the Mound I was concerned to see that characters in the Tim Chalk Nativity Scene were lying on the grass and wondered, since have not had particularly wild weather, whether they had been vandalised. This would be a dreadful fate for such a popular feature of the Edinburgh Christmas.

On our way home later this is what had developed, it was the scene, dismantled, packed up and loaded onto a lorry. To our right, workers were removing the lights from the Christmas tree.

Forgive my ignorance, but surely today is only two days after Christmas? Traditionally, decorations are taken down by the 6th of January, ten days hence, so why is the Nativity scene being removed so early? Could it possibly be in the way of the forthcoming Hogmanay jamboree celebrations?

I am sad that it has been and gone before I had even seen it this year, due to its position so far from the centre.
