Just Pure Scum By The Way!

This the scum you might find floating on the top of a pond. Thready green stuff with not much of life you might think. But these two strands have been up to hanky-panky (moist conjugation) as they sunbathed in their warm puddle. The strand on the left has donated some DNA (plus extras!) to the one lying passively beside him. The result is the happy little bundle in each of the cells which will produce more Spirogyra! Who said they were just pure scum?! (Taken with my Patholux microscope and Nikon D70). Dead chuffed with the arrival of my first - photomicrograph!
