Life in Newburgh on Ythan

Partan creels

The English call them edible, or brown crabs, the zoologists know them as Cancer pagurus, but in these parts they answer to partans. Whatever the name, you can catch them in lobster pots, known hereabouts as creels.

The nearest thus-far that I have come to meeting my maker was when Mrs Talpa's mother gifted me a basket of partans, one of which was, well, past its best! She meant me no harm but boy did I suffer!

These creels are sitting on the harbour at Collieston. Snow threatens!
