A canary in the Canaries

Well, it had to be blipped, didn't it.

Today, we went looking for birds.  And found some.

Of course we wanted to see wild canaries, but there are several other birds that are specific to The Canaries.

In extras is a blue chaffinch, and a greater spotted woodpecker having a good preen on a tree.  There's also a photo of a woodpecker and a pair of blue chaffinches on a stump.  The stump contained water, so the birds were coming down to it regularly to drink.

In addition, I caught sight of a Canarian blue tit.  These were all seen at Las Lajas picnic site, on the road out of Vilaflor towards El Teide.

After spending several hours there, including taking a nice little ramble, we drove towards Chio, stopping at a view point for Pico Viejo.  Here we saw what was definitely a Bertholet's pipit - more certain this time than with the bird I added as an extra a couple of days ago, but no photo.  And I've added a view of the peak.

Finished the day sampling yet another local restaurant, and now we are packing - tomorrow we catch the ferry to Gran Canaria.
