Zenaida macroura

What a mouthful of a Latin name for what we know as the Mourning Dove

I didn't realize that the American population of this bird is 350 million! Until we moved to our current home, it is a bird I rarely saw at feeders. We have several that feed daily on seeds that fall from the sunflower feeders as well as cracked corn that we toss out.

They are an attractive bird with their bright blue eye-ring surrounding a black eye, and blue beak set against a mostly buff body.
