If you can't beat them...

Candles.

Actually having looked up what a candle is I am not sure I can call these candles.  A candle according to the dictionary is : a cylinder or block of wax or tallow with a central wick which is lit to produce light as it burns.  As you may have spotted there is no flame on these candles.

"The Mate" has problems with his chest so we refrained from lighting any of the numerous real candles,  We first came across them when choosing decorations for the Lodge, for obvious reasons we are a little twitchy about naked flames on a wooden building.  They are battery powered and the "flame" moved and flickers.

The plate they are standing on is made from stone the white markings are Orthoceras showing through the white marble.  Orthoceras are extinct cephalopods similar to the modern cuttlefish.  They are mainly found in the Baltic states and date back around 485 million years.
