Essex Bridge

One of my favourite places to sit.
This was my first visit of the decade. It’s a marvellously peaceful place to stop and think but it’s also a bridge full of history.

Apparently, the Earl of Essex had it built to allow Queen Elizabeth1 to visit him at Chartley Castle. Originally there were 40 arches and it extended into the park at Shugborough.

It was also designed to be wide enough for horses and carriages to pass, as you can see from this morning’s traffic.

Everyone, just everyone, says hello.

And it’s the perfect spot to pause, think and pray for peace.
