tempus fugit

Yuk factor

A dull day but I'm always intrigued to see this single Yucca thriving and flowering on the bank of the estuary where the fresh and the salt water mingle and the silhouette of Carn Ingli dominates the little town of Trefdraeth (Newport).

Originally native to the New World, this plant must once have been swept down or washed up here and then managed to take root in the sight of the ancient hill fort on the skyline.

The flowers are edible but were a little past their best. I picked some sea beet instead.

Curiously enough, the Yucca has a compatriot growing directly across the estuary, the American Skunk Cabbage.
