Max Finishing the Sunday Paper
A very good day. Lots of wind. Lots of quality time with family. Some organizing. Some sorting. Read a good article about an opera I would like to see. Die Tote Stadt now playing at the Bavarian State Opera with Jonas Kaufmann and Marlis Petersen. Written by Erich Wolfgang Korngold. I remember the composer's name from movie credits for the music from 50s ilms. The music was always dramatic and overpowering. Anyway, the article in the NYT was fascinating about how the opera has periods of revival, having premiered in 1920. It has gotten mixed reviews depending on who directed and starred. This production sounds very good to me. I listened to some of the music on youtube. Very beautiful.
