Chinese nets

We were taken round this morning on a tour of Fort Cochin including the iconic Chinese fishing nets, St Francis church Jew town and the palace. We had to walk the gauntlet of some very persistent shop traders touting for business outside their doors and eventually gave in as Mrs TT saw a fabric shop with a huge collection of fabrics to tailor in a multitude of Indian designs. We had only entered the shop because a tuk-tuk driver offered us a free lift home if we would stop there because he is guaranteed a rice voucher from the shop Just for getting people through the doors. In the end she bought something off the peg. There followed a very pleasant lunch in a restaurant specialising in North Indian curries. I like the Kerelan cuisine but wanted to ring the changes. There is plenty of Dutch and English colonial history and architecture. Saint Francis Church is one of the oldest European churches in India and the original burial place of Vasco de Gama. And hooray our bags have this minute arrived!
