Quokka a fuss about a whole lot

This morning we caught the boat from Perth wharves and puttered down the beautiful Swan river to Freemantle and out to Rotnest island. Known locally as Rotto, it lies about 20K off the coast from Perth.
This lovely little island is owned by the West Australia government, there are no cars, thousands of bikes and a few buses. No private properties and only permanent accommodation for those working in restaurants and hotels. A delightful place for a holiday, kids can run about, swimming, fishing and generally enjoying their existence whilst parents take it a bit easy.
The coastal scenery is astonishing but the star of the show is the little quokka; like most Australian animals, it is a marsupial, it stands about12 inches (36 cm) tall and hops about reasonably unconcerned by humans.
