Health Should Not Be A Business

My QSM has private health insurance.  It's a bit more expensive but it has a couple of advantages - 1. You always get seen quicker & 2.  You get a private room should you end up in hospital.  The big disadvantage is that you have to pay the bills and then claim the money back from your insurance company.

The first bill arrived today (so, not even a month after she went into hospital).  It's the cost of the ambulance that took her from the City Of Bears into hospital here in Wiesbaden.  800 Euros.   The journey is about 50km and took about 2 hours total.

However, that's a tawdry story.  Let me tell you a better one.

On Monday at work, I was pretty stressed and bought a couple of filled rolls for lunch.  Couldn't face eating the second one (a boring sort of roll with butter and ham) and thought about eating it in the evening.

I forgot about the roll.

Tuesday.  I go through the day and think I'll take that roll home and eat it tonight.

I did take it home.  But it felt stale and I thought "Nope."  And since it was sealed in a plastic bag, I chucked it in the  bin in my office at home.

Wednesday.  I get home from work.  And I find Nisha in my office, she looks at me as if to say "No idea what happened here, mate, it was like that when I got here".

I notice my bin has been knocked over and all the stuff is over the floor.  Except the plastic bag with the roll in it.

That has been herded into a corner behind the big palm.  The bag has been sliced open.  The unbuttered half is still in the bag.  The half with the ham and butter is now a half without ham or butter.

Nisha is saying nothing.

I don't think it's anything to worry about - I know cats shouldn't get salty things, but it wasn't a lot of ham or butter*.   And I've learned never to throw food in my bin

*And the roll would probably cost 250 Euros in hospital.
