Between fen and mountains

I don’t usually do a food blip but this one seemed worth it. On arrival at the next homestay on an eco-farm, we were presented with our lunch on a banana leaf. This is usually reserved for feasts and festivals but on this traditional farm, it seems it is served daily. There are a variety of pickles, rice dishes and curries all served with glasses of spiced drinks followed for pudding by a glass of sweet rice shake. The extra is this morning‘s breakfast at our first homestay which was a selection of delicious local tropical fruits and a roll of strained rice and coconut served with a curry dahl or banana and honey according to preference. The two hour journey on the main highway before entering the countryside was interesting. Lorries, motorbikes and cars were interweaving and hooting all the way.
