I work very few clinical shifts these days and most of the time I coordinate so have limited direct patient contact. On my night shift on Sunday I met a young man going to theatre for an appendectomy-he was quite nervous about everything but trying to put on a brave face. I chatted with him and his mum quite a lot and on Tuesday when I went back in work mum stopped me for a chat as I was walking past his bay, she was very complimentary about the way I’d treated them.
Today he returned for a review and again I passed by where they were and stopped to ask how he was. A little while later they came back and presented me with this card and a large chocolate traybake for the staff - so much for being good!
