Snowmageddon US Style

It's refreshing to see Americans get just as overhyped about the prospect of bad weather as we Brits do. In the last 24 hours the news has been packed full of predictions of traffic chaos and the need to stay at home due to impending blizzards,. News reporters have been outside supermarkets desperately hoping to show citizens stocking up for the big freeze (there were none), standing alongside freeways highlighting traffic jams (there were none) and gazing into the rain for snow (there was none).

This morning I tentatively peeked out of my hotel room expecting to see (based on the frenetic predictions) the city under a blanket of snow (there was none) and switched on the TV to absorb the "travel advisories" of red-arrowed traffic hotspots (green arrows only).

Here's the view from the office of the weather holocaust.

Ironically, the only hint of weather-induced chaos came from a call by my son's school back in London asking if he could be picked up early as they were closing early because of snow. For once it seems the English hype was justified.
