More likely a twig of Black Wattle (Acacia melanoxylon).
How do I know?
Well, they're not uncommon up here, and when I looked for botanical info, the proof of the pudding seemed to be this delicious description:
the funicle is pinkish.
For those of us who don't know a funicle from a funnelweb, that evidently refers to those coloured bits.......q.e.d!
