Brand new baby.....

A day of cattle work. Ran the 34 bulling heifers and the Aberdeen Angus bull across to a shed next door as it’s time they were housed . The field they were in looks more like a paddy field after all the recent rain.
They got their backs clipped so they don’t sweat inside and a wormer injection that kills any stomach worms, parasites and liver fluke.
When we came back at lunch time this Hereford X cow was on calving. The head was nearly out and two feet were there but she wasn’t making much progress so I managed to sneak up behind her and grab the feet to give it a pull. I got the shoulders out then she stood up and started birling round in circles with me following , still pulling . Luckily Kev and Gareth turned up to give an extra pull and we soon had this muckle Blonde X heifer calf out in one piece. Left them alone until I’d had my dinner then brought them in to a pen as it came on heavy rain. It still hadn’t sucked by 4 pm so had to milk the cow and stomach tube the calf with a couple of litres of colostrum. Hopefully it will get the idea by tomorrow !
