Charades

I know everyone will be blipping the snow but the best part of my day was the hilarious hour and a half after dinner when we played Charades and Humbugs (Humbugs is when you hum a song for people to guess).

It doesn't look that hilarious here - Al looks very serious, but it was such a good laugh. We are suckers for games and quizzes and are really competitive and we all ended up in hysterics. It is particularly funny when the children think of something they know, but without any clue of how to act it out. An example of this was when Al mimed throwing up and we all shouted things like 'sick!', 'puke!', 'vom!', 'chuck!' and 'spew!' while he furiously shook his head and looked annoyed, but didn't do anything else. lt turned out to be 'Horrible Histories'.

It was a fun thing to do especially because Betsy was very low when she got in from school. They hadn't been allowed to go outside in the snow and - God Forbid! - leave early. She felt the contrast between that and Stanley, where last night - before a single flake had fallen - the website said that children could be picked up early if you fancied it,, and when the snow did actually come down, they immediately suspended lessons and for no discernable reason, just let them all watch The Polar Express. At Secondary, no one leaves early, lessons are as usual, and snowball fights are not just against the rules, they are just not possible. Betsy, who misses her old school, felt the difference very badly today!

So, anyway, homework done, two lots of football cancelled, so dinner, charades, bed, red wine and nothing, no clubs, no one, and no commitments till Monday. Just the four of us, just how I like it!
