Hailshower at Balfour, Shapinsay

A haily day on Shapinsay. I walked along to The Ouse, got there a little earlier as a local man gave me a lift a fair way. Pretty breezy there with sun, cloud and hailshowers. A family of whoopers on Lairo Water and maybe 300 curlew, 20 shelduck and good numbers of lapwing, redshank, dunlin, wigeon and 3 bar-tailed godwit. I had coffee in the lee of Ling Holm, then headed west along the cliffs and tracks to the hide at Mill Dam where everything was sheltering in the reeds at the lochside, then back to Balfour village and the ferry.
