Glasgow Lion

One of two lions flanking the Cenotaph in George Square, Glasgow. Sculpted by Ernest Gillick in 1925.

Things I’ve learned. Cenotaph means “empty tomb”. The design of the cenotaph is based in the same in London. It is also secular, intentionally so because the people who died in ww1 were of many different nationalities and religions. Such a view was contested by the church and religious elements have been incorporated into the ceremony on 11th November.

I’m enjoying taking photos and then doing research into what I take!
