This stopped us in our tracks. First holy well of the day down a meandering boreen and we came across the Sacred Heart in a bathtub - it's a bit of a thing apparently, Wildwood told me, and very sustainable, though I suspect those who created this were more practical than aesthetes. The well was rather lovely - first in the extras - and had a story attached (of course it did). The soon to be St Mologa's mother was on her way home from her parents house in County Carlow when she became marooned in deep snow. As she went into labour a service of angels appeared and thoughtfully cleared the snow around her to a circumference of 30ft (9.1m - very precise) and St Mologa was born safe and sound. The well immediately sprang up where the miracle had occurred. St Moling went on to do very good things.
Two other wells visited - a Lady's Well where the BVM had actually appeared and a Sunday's Well - who can identify the three statues - a prize for the first correct answer!
By the way, we're now in International Holy Well 20 - IHW20.
