Farewell Spit

On Sunday M and l went over the Takaka mountain and out to the far north west of the south island. If you look on a map you can see a thin sliver of land shaped like a hook as if reaching out to grasp the north island. This hook is a huge sand dune, remote and to my mind slightly ethereal, the sand is white and the wind whips it up giving the effect of the land floating. You cannot go out to the end unless you take a tour so as M and l have done that before we chose to walk along the inside of the hook and then walk across and out to the sea on the western side.
My, it was hot and no shelter from the sun so we did not stay long.
