Goalmouth scramble

On a day when Liverpool Reserves scrambled to a draw against the mighty Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup, it was good to get out to the gym to see how Ottawacker Jr. was developing his own interpretation of the goalkeeping art.

I think I might have mentioned, a casual couple of hundred times, that he has an unusual mix of fearlessness and insanity where goalkeeping is concerned. Normally, he is a level-headed, smart 7-year-old; give him a pair of gloves and an Alisson Becker shirt, however, and he turns into a strange mix of Jim Carrey and John Wayne.

Most goalkeepers develop the use of their hands, for example. Not Ottawacker Jr. If he can't use his feet, he uses his head; this, however, is no metaphorical waxing lyrical of his intellect. He literally uses his head. Diving in where angels fear to tread... head first.

This far he has avoided serious injury. The anxious look on his coach's face is a good indicator of how than might not always be the case...
