Beech tree

Today's the day . . . . . . . . . . .  to put down roots

This magnificent beech tree grows in the woods on Corstorphine Hill.  It's at the top of quite a steep slope up from the path - where the soil must be very thin.  The bedrock is not far from the surface.

Goodness knows how it manages to hang on there - but for a long long time it has - by the skin of its roots . . . . . . . . . . . . .
