York City 4 Chester FC 2

There were 677 Chester fans at York today which is a very good away turnout for the 6th tier of English football. From the start of the season this always looked like being a big match against the team that were favourites for promotion.

It turned out to be 2nd v 3rd and I can’t help but feel that Chester should have got more out of this. Once again the defending from set pieces was dodgy and I didn’t think York looked much better although we didn’t test them enough. Can’t argue with the result though.

This is one of the last games at this ground which is close to the city centre and has bags of character. In the next few weeks York will be moving to some soulless stadium next to a bypass and retail park. It will have better toilets but give me Bootham Crescent any day of the week
