Orange Sun

This afternoon the sun was surreal. It has been a hot nor’westery day, with high cloud and Australian smoke shedding orange sunshine. For a while around 6.30pm the sun was a fiery disc with a red rim. I used two different cameras to try to capture it and this shot was the closest. In order to get the rich colour I had to use a low ISO with a very high shutter speed, which rendered the sky black. It was actually a smokey colour with a reddish glow close to the sun. I was able to gaze at the sun without burning spots on my retinas.

My only regret was that there is no sheet of water anywhere around here. A reflection would have been magnificent.
