Native mistletoe

Our native mistletoe is very different from the European variety.  For starters we have about 90 different species (more than anywhere else in the world).

They provide a valuable resource of food and habitat for native animal birds and insects.  This is Amyema miquelii; and there is an image of the whole thing in extras.  The seed is spread by the mistletoebird, who eats the fruits and deposits the seed within minutes.  The sticky seed attaches itself to the host plant and another mistletoe takes hold.

Even though it's just across the road from us, I have yet to spot a mistletoebird.

It won't kill the tree.
