Mottled Green

Even in the woods, photographing in bright sun is hard to cope with, although after all the grey days recently it was uplifting to feel the warmth. I was immediately struck by the mottled green surface of this fallen tree and shooting from this angle allowed me to line up the trunk with the cast shadows. The melting snow has an undulating surface complimenting that of the tree.

The trunk points into the frame and over the small pool which provides something of a payoff for the leading line. I tried making the pool brighter to draw more emphasis, but the result was too washed out. I cropped in from the top a little to reduce the brighter area.
