Water crickets ( Velia sp.)

... taken by flash light.  I went to the pond with my big torch to see if there were any frogs yet, but instead found about a dozen pond skaters.  The light coloured background is from a "floating birdbath" which I've got in the pond just now. I didn't spot the tiny water snail on the pine needle until I had the photo on the computer.  In Extras, the moon at 20:50 (85.2% illuminated).

I thought that they were pond skaters, but I've now been told they are water crickets.
