The Castle Tavern

This was my local when I lived close to the town centre. My neighbour and I used to go there every Sunday night to chew the fat. Previously it was called ‘The Harlequin,’ but the master stroke of George, the new owner, was to re-christen it, ‘The Castle Tavern.’ Why? Because it is within spitting distance of Inverness Castle. What was previously a quiet bar/restaurant soon became a tourist hot spot, and with the development of a partially heated outdoor seating area, the pub barely needed to advertise itself. Mine host was also keen to feature many Scottish cask conditioned ales, at a time when few local bars were doing so. The place has changed hands since, but continues much as before. On a sunny summer day, you’ll be lucky to get a table.
Other taverns are available.
