Although this looks a mess, this stretch of beach on the Solent between Lepe and Calshot is where D-Day preparations were made. There are ruined remains of buildings, jetties, slipways and platforms where, amongst other things, mulberry harbours were built and launched before being towed across the Channel.

It’s an interesting place to go for a walk. Coastal erosion is doing its thing, so in a few more decades this will all be gone.
