Early in the caregiving journey a woman I never much liked said how it will be for me when "your mom is no longer your mom." True, the disease takes much away, and some day she may not recognize me or behave in any of the old familiar ways, but I have always seen the through line, however thin or wavering. I will always see her, whether or not she can see me.

And look, 80+ years later, she still looks so much like herself!
