Flood

The early part of our journey home on the motorway, under the influence of Storm Ciara, was blighted by spray and heavy rain but not the strong wind experienced by other areas. Further north the elements quietened and the trip became enjoyable.
As we crossed them we noticed that major rivers - Swale, Nidd, Coquet and Tweed - were full to bursting and saw this in Coldstream, where a minor road crosses a burn, the Leet Water, which joins the Tweed around 500 metres away, just out of view.
Judging by the exposed handrail (by the trees on the left) the water is about 1 metre above road level; comparing the height at the footbridge (behind trees to the right) the water level might be some 2.5 metres above normal (Google Street View assisting in this conjecture).
The forecast of more wind and snow on the hills means the fun is not over yet!
