Outdoor First Aid Day 2

Given the storm, we were a bit concerned we wouldn’t be able to go into the woods but luckily the wind dropped and the rain stopped, just for a few hours.

I had another fun day ‘lying around’ being a casualty. Intothehills had made some super gruesome props to ressemble a compound fracture, a bolt sticking out of an arm and an entirely severed foot! His artistic talents were clearly in evidence.

All those who came on the course are Girlguiding walking leaders of various levels, and they found the steep, muddy, woodland scenarios much more challenging than they would have in a classroom, or even in a guide centre garden. It definitely put several participants outside their comfort zone... but that’s what it was for... to make them (and me) think more about what they’d do if it happened for real. There was a bit of initial fluster and forgetting, but as the day progressed, things really started to come together.

And in the end they all passed. A great result. If any blippers need first aid training, I can recommend our very own Blipland trainer :-)
