February full moon

I know that this photo was taken almost 12 hours after the instant of the full moon. However at that time the moon was not visible to me in Auckland. Whereas, this morning I was greeted by the bright light of the moon across the upper Waitemata Harbour, and also onto the apartment deck.

I tried to get a photo using the Lumix mirrorless "bridge camera". Suspected that they weren't very good. So pulled out the Pentax. Got a couple with the ISO at 200, and decided that I should increase to ISO. Memory of advice a few years back to increase the ISO and slow the shutter speed. I didn't get the tripod, and left the camera to determine shutter speed (1/320). Fast enough to avoid camera shake. Slow enough to get some detail of the surface of the moon, following some manipulation of the image.

Then to work. Began with an early meeting with the District Inspectors. Then went to catch up with my registrar (a senior trainee from the States, who is senior enough and capable enough to be left to start the assessments in the ICU), and determine the rest of the day.

Unfortunately the rest of the day was a series of meetings; with the Duly Authorised Officers, management, and then a meeting to give a patient joined up care. A hopeful indication that different teams will work together.. Finally a brief meeting about what can be put into next financial year's Key Reportable Activities. The only good bit about the latter is that by spending 15 - 30 minutes with K means that I don't have to attend a two hour meeting tomorrow morning.

By then it was mid afternoon, and there was time for patients and in one case family. It was good to get away a little before 5pm and have time for a walk through Grey Lynn Park and adjacent streets, which is where I got the photo I have put up as an extra; a spotted dove. Although described in Robertson and Heather's Hand Giuide to the Birds of NZ as an uncommon Asian introduction, there seem to be plenty in Auckland now.
