Reinforcement

Our top terrace structure is being reassembled with new pinnings after the recent storms ripped apart the lighter fittings. The key elements, of metal or wood, have been sanded and, then, painted or varnished with two thick coats of their respective coverings. We decided to ditch the too-thin reed double-layer screening as it was too transparent . . . the quality has fallen during the fifteen years since the original was out in place. We've gone for a more finished look with synthetic canes, still needing double thickness, but more durable and less of a fire risk. Five times more expensive, needless to say. Of course, all of this needed the return to Bauhaus of 30m of the cane screening and the purchase of 30m of the new covering, all by big taxi (a Mercedes Vano) . . . accomplished in two hours after the change decision was made!
