Ancient timekeepers?

These are two standing stones, each about 2.5 metres high, originally part of a line of five but three have fallen over during the passage of time. It was thought that these were erected about 4000 years ago but nobody knows for what purpose. It is possible that they are in alignment with the sun, moon or stars at certain times of year so would have been an early form of calendar. It would certainly have taken a lot of effort to have hewn these out of hard igneous rock then take them to the allocated place and raise them high, so they must have had some serious purpose.

It was lovely to be out in the sunshine today after days of gales and hail.
