Tett Turrets

I had a walk along the dismantled railway at Bartlow to have a look at and photograph these relics from the Second World War before the vegetation grew up and concealed them for the summer.

Tett Turrets were invented and manufactured as a private venture during the invasion scare of 1940 and very clearly by someone who had no intention of manning one of them. There is a good description of them here.

There are twenty of these concrete artefacts and their mounting rings beside the old railway. I can only believe that they were delivered by train for deployment in the local area but not used. So there they lie to this day a sobering reminder of just how desperate things were back in 1940.

A good subject for Wide Wednesday and they look better in black and white. Another view as an extra.
