Landslip

A chunk of cliff just north of Newport Sands fell away after heavy rain at the end of last year, showing the strata with unusual clarity. Pembrokeshire has some of the world's most complex geology. This beach with its hinterland includes Ordovician slates and volcanic rocks as bedrock, with a surface containing significant glacial and peri-glacial deposits. As for whether this folded cliff is pyritic shale, or even Old Red Sandstone, don't ask me, I'm a social scientist (and colourblind).
