Meeting Houses Overseas

Today's the day .......................... to sew skilfully

Some of our volunteers were re-framing one of the embroidered panels at work today which was all about Quaker Meeting Houses overseas. Ten of them are featured on the panel and as you can imagine they look very different from each other because they exist in very different countries of the world.

This one here - which is only about three inches across - is a wall-less Meeting House in Ghana. I couldn't help noticing the skilful use of very few stitches to convey wonderfully the group of black Friends sitting under a thatched roof. The trees in the background look like acacia or something similar.

I know that this panel was designed by someone who was an architect, so all the buildings will be correct - but it takes a clever embroiderer to turn them into stitches ............................
