Parade Practice

I returned to my beloved Silver Sneakers exercise class at the Whatcom Family YMCA this week. We meet at 11 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and Tammy B., our instructor, entertains us for a full hour, leading us through a varied set of exercises that raise our heart rates, increase our flexibility and strength, and improve our balance.

She regales us with interesting brief stories, news snippets, and more, while also keeping us on track with the exercise instructions and heart rate checks. Our class is one of several offered for Active Older Adults (you'll see a familiar face if you go to that link... the photo was taken a couple of years ago).

Our Silver Sneakers class has a tradition of marching in Bellingham's annual St. Patrick's Day Parade. This year we're wearing rainbow tie-dyed T-shirts and waving the beribboned little sticks you see in the photo. They have tiny little bells at the top and are delightful! Our marching music will be a recording of "McNamara's Band" and every so often we'll stop and do our routine.

I know you all wish you could be there... and yes, Tammy B. will be wearing her inflatable rainbow unicorn costume in the parade.
